BAB T20 Cricket Tournament Rules 2023

Team Formation

1. Each team should have at least of 09 (max 16) players to form a squad.
2. The team captain must submit the player’s full name (as per BAB membership) electronically within the Registration Form provided by the Tournament Committee.
3. If a team requires to include additional players (up to 16), the team captain must inform the Tournament Committee by sending an email to sports@bab.org.au at least 24 hours prior to the start of the scheduled match. Once a max of 16 players are declared in a team, no further inclusions will be allowed.
4. The team captain must accept the “Safety and Legal Liability” terms electronically during the tournament registration. The Safety and Legal Liability document will be distributed along with the registration form.
5. All payers nominated in a team must be a current member of BAB. Player’s residency and eligibility will be in line with BAB’s constitution.
6. A team may include up to 12 players in each match. One of the players can only bat and another player can only bowl. These two players will be referred as – Super Sub (Bowler and Batsman). The team captain must declare their Super Sub players prior to the toss and confirm in the scoring portal used by the Tournament Committee.
7. The team captain must ensure that they have acquired the full consent of the players to be included in their team squad. Any internal team disputes must be consolidated by the respective team captains.
8. Team registration process will be done through BAB Online registration form. When registering, it is the team captain’s responsibility to obtain consent from each player of the team.

Entry Fee

1. Each team must pay $600 as the tournament Entry Fee. The team captain is responsible to make the payment along with the team Registration Form.
2. The entry fee must be paid during the time of the team registration.

Clothing

1. Cricket friendly dresses must be worn. The Tournament Committee encourages the teams to arrange and wear their branded dress. White color attire is recommended, but not enforced.
2. No bare footed players will be allowed.
3. Players wearing short trousers will not be permitted to participate in the match.

Safety and Legal Liability

1. Players should use personal playing triggers (pads, gloves, hats, helmets etc.) and refrain from sharing them where possible. Flu season is upon us, and this will help reduce health hazards.
2. Umpires are instructed not to hold personal belongings while in the field (i.e. bowlers cap, clothing etc.) ONLY a cap/hat can be placed behind the main umpire, no penalties will be applicable if the bowl hit the object.
3. Participating players are not to use saliva or sweat during the match to shine the ball. Shine on clothes are acceptable.
4. If a participating player is unwell or experiencing flu like symptoms, he should NOT attend the match. It is the team captain’s responsibility to notify the Tournament Committee if a player is known to be unwell and an alternative arrangement is required (abiding to the Team Formation rules).
5. Each team must follow general safety requirements and protect themselves from personal injury or accidental physical damage, and refrain from any personal or group level clash. BAB or the tournament committee will not take any injury liabilities.
6. Each team captain must obtain consent from every participating player, including any additional players, that each player acknowledges and agrees to the Insurance Disclaimer prior beginning of each match. The team captain, on behalf of the playing team, is liable to personal insurance disclaimer of every players.
7. A basic first aid kit will be available during the match.

Umpiring

1. The Committee will appoint the “main” umpire for every match of the tournament.
2. The appointed external umpire will run the tournament matches as the primary umpire, and a representative from the batting team will assist as the secondary (leg) umpire for all the initial matches except the Final. The secondary umpire will convey his decision to the main umpire and the final decision will be declared by the main umpire.
3. During the final match of the tournament, the sub-committee and BAB EC will endeavor to appoint an independent Leg Umpire if possible. Due to logistical limitations, the likelihood is very low; however, a substantive consideration will be upheld.
4. The main umpires’ decisions are final. If any team needs to discuss or raise any matter with the umpires, only captain/vice-captain of the team will be allowed to do so.
5. At any point players must obtain the umpires consent to enter or leave the field while an innings is in progress.
6. Any unresolved issues during the match must be submitted in writing to the Tournament Committee (sports@bab.org.au) for a review. The committee will endeavor to make an unbiased decision of the matter and will be considered as “final decision” upon reviewing the appeal.

Group Formation

1. The group formation can differ due to the number of participating teams and will be discussed once the registration is completed. The tournament committee will endeavor to coordinate the tournament in maximum plays for each team considering the time and budget specified.

Match Timetable

1. The following table will be maintained for first (AM) and second (PM) games at the group level.

1. If a preceding match is delayed for any unavoidable circumstances, the Match Umpires will set a new time for the scheduled match. It will be an amicable intention that the match is commenced at its earliest possible time and a minimum 5 overs is played each side to complete a contest.

Ground

1. The Tournament Committee will be responsible to secure a venue for every match and will correspond with the respective playing team captains in advance prior to the scheduled match.
2. A Host Team will be selected in every match to prepare the ground before the toss. The Tournament Committee representative will assist the host team where possible.

Match Rules

1. One player is allowed to play for one team only throughout the tournament.
2. The tournament will be a 20 over-a-side match and played with standard leather cricket balls provided by the Tournament Committee.
3. The match will be played in a fixed batting and bowling sides (no rotation) decided by the match umpire.
4. All international T20 laws will apply including LBW, Bye Runs, Free Hits.
5. Field restrictions law will be applicable during the tournament.
6. One new cricket ball will be used for each innings for every match. In case of a lost or damaged ball, existing balls used in previous games will be used. Umpires will choose ball.
7. Agreed and Published Fixtures are final and cannot be changed without Tournament Committee’s written approval. However, in the event of any unavoidable circumstances, the Tournament Committee will notify the participated teams any change of schedules.
8. Each captain of the scheduled match must ensure that their players are available prior to the start of the match.
9. To begin a match, at least 7 players of a team need to be present in the field. Otherwise, the opponent will be declared as the winner 30 mins after the scheduled starting time. In case both teams are unable to fulfil the above requirements, the game will be fortified, and no point will be awarded to any of the teams.
10. Unplayed matches due to any unavoidable circumstance (e.g. bad weather, wet outfield or similar) will be declared as abandoned, and each team will be awarded 1 point.
11. No “Reserved Day” will be considered during the Group Matches. However, a “Reserved Day” will be allocated for the semis and the final.
12. If a match cannot be started at the scheduled time for unavoidable circumstances (i.e. bad weather, wet outfield or similar), the match will be played with reduced overs. Number of overs will be determined based on the time left for the match. Umpire will make the decision upon discussing with the Tournament Committee and the respective participating captains. However, a match cannot be played for less than 5 overs a side.
13. Standard practice of 4 minutes for an over shall be followed. Constituting 20 min allocation for each side on a minimum of 5 overs playing innings. Therefore, for the morning session match the minimum reduced over play must start no later than 12pm with a 10 min break. For an afternoon session, the minimum reduced over play must start no later than 3:15pm with a 10 min break. Any latency past the above time mentioned, will be considered as an abandoned match.
14. If a match is interrupted by bad weather while the second innings is in progress, D/L method will be applied to set revised target and/or to decide the winner using an application called Duckworth-Lewis Calculator chosen by the Tournament Committee. 15. The Tournament Committee preserves the right to make amendment on a rule when required and take decision on any matter for handling exceptional or unforeseen situations.
16. Any complaints regarding to an unlikely event/s must be raised immediately and/or before the match ends to the Tournament Committee followed by a written notice no later than 30 minutes to sports@bab.org.au. Without a written notice no actions will be persuaded.
17. If an innings is delayed due to a participating team’s will be considered as a waste of time (following the Official Cricket Rules).  However, to remain consistent across QLD cricket laws and Warehouse Tournaments where many of the community players participate, the following rules will be applied:
    • The umpire will warn the team captains on the situation to speed up the match in progress with possible penalty options.
    • Despite the warning, if the delay is deemed intentional and consider waste of time, the opponent will be awarded 6 runs per over.
    • However, the umpire will be considerate and will be lenient to avoid any penalties, if possible. As waste of time circumstances are unpredictable, umpire’s decision will be considered as final based on the specific state during the match.

Scoring System

1. An official electronic scoring tool will be used during the match and live scoring will be available through portable devices throughout the match and beyond.
2. A paper-based scoresheet will be available during the match, if the individual team like to update on their own. However, the committee will not be held responsible for any errors.
3. The tournament committee will nominate a dedicated scorer during the match.
4. Nominated representatives from each team must assist the scorer updating the player’s information where required and continually monitoring the real time scorecard and bring any discrepancies to the scorer’s attention immediately.

Point System

1. Winning team in each match will receive 3 points and defeated team will receive 0 point.
2. Teams will share a point each if the match is abandoned due to unavoidable circumstances.

1. For any match where two teams finish their innings with same score, the winner will be decided in super over as per International T20 rules.

Semi-Final and Final

1. The formation of the semis will depend on the team participation and how the initial matches are formed. If two groups are formed the 2 teams from each group ladder will compete for the semis. If a league format is chosen due to the minimal team participation, four teams in the ladder will qualify to play the semi- finals.
2. If two or more teams finish with same points, (1) Net Run Rate (NRR) or (2) head to head winner, in order exclusively, will be considered to determine the team position.
   • If the formation is “league”, then team 1 of the RR position ladder will compete with Team 4 in the RR position ladder, whereas, Team 2 of the RR position ladder will compete with Team 3 in the RR position ladder.
   • If the formation is “group” then the top team in one group will compete with the second team of another group.
3. The winners of the semi-finals will play the final match.
4. All matches for BAB T20 Tournament 2023 will be played during the daylight and Final Match will be played as a PM match.
5. A red ball will be used during the entire tournament.

Awards

1. For each match, Player of the Match will be awarded. The Tournament Committee will select the player of the match based on individual contribution and performance after discussing with the umpire and the scorer of the match.
2. Champion & Runners-up team winners will be awarded.
3. Based on individual performance (e.g. total runs/wickets, average runs/wickets, strike rate, catches, etc.), Best Batsman and Best Bowler will be determined and awarded by the Tournament Committee.

Each page of the “BAB T20 Cricket Tournament Rules” must be read and accepted on the Web Registration Form. The team captain must obtain consent from each participating players of the team prior accepting the Tournament Rules.
