This is an on-field perspective of the game: With no Sumon in the batting and no Jalal in the bowling Warrior side looked a little crippled. Ofcourse, absence of Zahed Zia hurt the opponent too. Warriors were struggling to gather 11 players on field at one time, thanks to Cobra Captain Zakir for a quick available substitute offer, Sami. The game went very smooth for Cobra until 10 overs. Raziur (sumit) is one of the best batsman we have seen in this tournament so far. His footwork, judgement, style and reflex were near perfect. Cobra were 89/1 at that point with Raziur on 53. Then came the cameo of Maruf Joy, his first ball was a juicy full toss which Raziur could not resist to hit. Warrior fielder Farid, as usual, made no mistake to take it. In my opinion that was the turning point of the game. It was a good call to send Shawon to accelerate but that did not work for Cobra. Warrior Skipper Salahuddin bowled straight with gentle pace which slowed the opponent down. Maruf Joy stuck again in 15th over with 2 more wickets, both from googly. After 15 overs, Cobra was still looking good with 117/5. All they needed was to preserve some fire power at the end but they did not have anyone and could manage 26 from the last 5 and lost 5 wickets. In Warriors innings, Maruf Joy again played very well to gather 34 runs making it easy to become the man of the match. But it never looked like the match will be tight. What the scorecard is not showing is the time when Sujon and Sami was batting with ease and keeping a 7 run per over rate for long 5 overs, taking Warriors to 93/3 in 12 overs. That is where Cobra lost grip on the match. Yes, after quick 3 wickets it was 103/6 after 14 overs but it was never enough to defend in such a small field. Warriors still had Farid, Taufiq, Jaffrey and Safee in reserve, all are capable of scoring quick. With Taufiq's couple of bounday hit and acceleration it became easy. When Jaffrey went there to bat, 17 was needed in 19 balls, Salman and Farhad Pulok was bowling in Good line and length. Scoring singles was enough for Warrioirs but Cobra were leaking 2's. At the end Farid decided to end it quickly with boundaries. It was all too easy because Cobra might have scored 20 runs short. The tournament became interesting after Saginaw beat the Heroes, Cobra still has 2 more games, if they win any of them, they will qualify. Wayne state are looking very good after emphatic win over Oakland. In theory both can qualify if they win 2 games in total and maintain decent run-rate. |
