It has been interesting last 2 weeks with the shortest format underway in capital cricket premier league, one of the "premier" leagues of virginia. Thunders stormed into the finals with emphatic victories in the league stages as well as the semis. On the other hand, Blues too blown away their oppisition in their league and knock out matches. With two consistent teams battling for one last time to win the championship, the final expected to be a mouth watering context and the match stood to the expectation and provided a thrilling finish.
As the teams batting first winning most of the matches in the tournament, Blues won the toss and elected to bat first without any second thought. Thunders drawn the first blood by getting rid of the opener in first over itself. But, Sachin Balagopal and Anand Moholkar built the necessary partnership with Anand taking the lead in pushing for quick runs. Thunders struck once again to take two more quick wickets to push back the Blues. With wickets tumbling at one end, Anand smashed couple of sixes to give the much needed momentum to the scoreboard. Meanwhile, Krishnam Chintaluri was canny with his deliveries and completed his quota of overs with miagre economy rate and took couple of wickets. Even with Anand scoring 32 runs, Blues able to score only 54 runs in their allowed 10 overs.
Having restricted the opposition to a gettable total, Thunders started their innings aggressively by scoring 16 runs off first two overs. Blues struck in successive overs to peg back the things a bit. With the third wicket partnership slowly taking Thunders towards the victory, Thunders progress has been hampered by the wicket of Sanjai Prabu. After Sanjai got out, Blues tightened the screws and run scoring has become absolutely difficult. To make the things worst for Thunders, Navin Vishnu has bowled a crucial 9th over and got rid of 2 batsmen with his last 2 deliveries. With 6 runs needing to lift the trophy, Vijay Chinnaswamy has hit a much needed boundary and thus helping his team cross the victory line with 3 balls to spare.

Overall, this tournament has been a treat to watch with some close matches and some brilliant individual performances. Paresh Patel was the highest run getter while Navin Vishnu is the highest wicket taker including his brilliant spell in the final. Teams have shown their atmost skillset with right spirit and raised the bars in terms of expectation for the next tournament. Thanks every one for your wonderful cooperation and until we meet again for the next edition, have a nice time ahead off the cricket field.
