Please note that this is not an all-inclusive list of code for CMTYS-CPL 2023. Specific tournament rules and general social, moral, and civic code also applies to all participants, i.e., players, friends, and family members. These rules must be strictly adhered to. Any violation of these rules may result in suspension of players from participating in the matches. Each player/team should always have a printed/digital copy of these rules for clarity.
The spirit of the game involves respect for:
Your opponents.
Your own captain and team members.
The umpires.
The game's traditional values.
Chicago Mar Thoma church values.
It is the team Captain’s/Manager’s/Owner’s responsibility to follow and share these rules and guidelines with each member of his team. It is each member’s responsibility to read, understand, and strictly adhere to these rules. Ignorance of these will not be considered as an excuse for any violations.
All members are responsible always for ensuring that play is conducted within the spirit and traditions of the game as well as within the rules of CMTYS-CPL 2023 as defined herein. Any incident threatening or actual aggressive physical contact with the umpire, a team member(s), or member(s) of the opposite team on Cricket field or premises is unacceptable and will result in disqualifying the player or team from CMTYS-CPL 2023.
The Judiciary Committee for a game will consist of two officiating umpires and the CMTYS cricket committee members. The Judiciary Committee’s decision will be final.
CMTYS-CPL 2023 recommends the use of appropriate guards. During batting, use of helmet, batting pads, batting gloves and groin guard are allowed. During keeping, keeping pads and keeping gloves are allowed.
Players and teams will play at their own risk of injury and health. Chicago Mar Thoma Church or Chicago Mar Thoma Yuvajana Sakhyam is not liable for any personal property loss, injuries to players, umpires and/or participants during any time of the tournament.
Everyone must obey any rules and regulations of the venue/park district where the tournament is conducted.
Each player must register with Yuvajana Sakhyam committee by giving $10 to participate in any match. All fees/payments are non-refundable.
The tournament committee has the right to reschedule the matches for any unforeseen reasons or adverse weather conditions.
Everyone must accept and respect the decisions of league committee and Umpires.
Fixtures for the match will be decided prior to the tournament day by the CMTYS cricket committee.
The first match will be scheduled to start (toss) at 9:00 a.m.
Each team will have 11 playing members and 1 substitute player.
At the time of toss if both playing teams have 9 members present at the ground, all 9 members can play.
If at least eight (8) players of a team are not physically present at the ground for the toss, the toss will be awarded to the opposing team.
If a team has an insufficient number of players (8) at 15 minutes past the scheduled match time, there will be no match, and a forced walkover is given to the team having more than 6 players at that time.
If the first ball is not bowled within 15 minutes of start time due to unavailability of a team, the team in violation will forfeit the match.
If batting is not started within 15 minutes of start time due to unavailability of a batsman, the team in violation will forfeit the match.
The allotted overs must be distributed among a minimum of five (5) bowlers with a maximum of 2 overs per bowler for four bowlers. One (1) bowler out of the players can bowl 3 overs in an innings.
For the finals, the allotted overs must be distributed among a minimum of five (5) bowlers with a maximum of 2 overs per bowler for three (3) bowlers. Two (2) bowlers out of the players can bowl 3 overs in an innings.
There will be only one break allowed by the umpire after the first innings. The break can be a maximum of 15 minutes but can be reduced upon umpire’s discretion. In case of extreme weather conditions, the umpire may allow a short break during an innings
A team may start the match with a minimum of 8 players. Late comers are not allowed to join the match if 5 overs have been completed.
LBW is exempt from all the matches.
New batters will be at the striker's end even if the batters cross while the catch is taken. The new batter will be on strike for the next ball, except if the dismissal is on the last ball of an over.
Bouncers are strictly prohibited due to safety reasons. A bowler will get a warning upon bowling the first bouncer (a ball over batsman’s shoulder height) and it will also be considered a NO BALL. The umpire will suspend the bowler for the rest of the match if another bouncer is bowled anytime during the same match.
For No-balls that involve overstepping of the Popping Crease by bowlers and bouncers, the FREE HIT rule will apply. In this situation, the next legal ball will be counted as being part of the over, but the batsman cannot be dismissed on that particular “Free Hit ball” (except Run-out, which is allowed). Same field must be maintained as was set for the No-ball if the batsman hasn’t changed ends from the previous delivery.
By-runners will be allowed if the Judiciary committee approves the use of for the particular batsman.
In case of adverse weather conditions, a match may be played with a minimum of 5 overs per side within the time available. The umpire, with the consent of Judiciary Committee can call off the match at any time if he deems that the weather would not allow a 5 overs/side match.
Both teams must be ready to play as soon as the umpire feels that the conditions are suitable to start the match. A team’s unavailability at the start of the match will result in its forfeiting match.
In the event of an inclement weather where a match is already under way and no more play is possible, the following rules will apply:
If one innings is already completed, and 5 overs have been completed in the second innings.
The score at the end of the first 5 overs for each team will determine the winner.
If the scores are the same, the match will be a tie.
Irresponsible behavior such as the following will not be tolerated:
Any act of violence.
Foul language.
Harassment.
Throwing equipment.
Arguing with the umpire.
Continue appealing after umpire’s decision.
As a player you are responsible for displaying positive behaviors. Such behaviors include:
Treating players fairly and respectfully.
No harassing or bullying others.
Recognizing people’s physical boundaries.
Accepting people’s right to complain if they’re offended by your actions.
