Delhi Kathmandu Royals Claims 2022 Smart Investments Canadian Friendship Cup Final Berth with Playoffs Win Over Bangalore Peshawar Tigers.

A belligerent half-century, 67 scored off of 48 balls with 8 fours and 1 six, by Canadian National Men’s Senior Team Captain Navneed Dhaliwal led the Delhi Kathmandu Royals to a comfortable 6 wickets victory over preliminary round leaders Bangalore Peshwar Tigers in the June 20 First Playoff match of the 2022 Smart Investments Canadian Friendship Cup. Led by Dhaliwal’s aggressive batting, the Royal’s scored 149/4 in just 16,5 overs to easily surpass the 148 run victory target they had been set after the Tigers batting first had posted 147/9 off its 20 allocated overs.
As a result of the win, the Royals have now advanced directly to the June 24 Final. The Tigers meanwhile will meet the winners of the June 21 Second Playoff encounter between the Rajasthan Rangpur Thunders and Jaffna Galle Centurions. The Thunders and Centurions placed third and fourth respectively at the end of the tournament’s Preliminary Round.

The Bangalore Peshawar Titans, with an unmatched unbeaten perfect record of six wins from as many matches played, had topped the Preliminary Round points standings and led the list of Playoffs contenders for the 2022 Smart Investments Canadian Friendship Cup. Second, third and fourth placed Delhi Kathmandu Royals (P6, W4, L1, NR1), Rajasthan Rangpur Thunders (P6, W3, L2, NR1) and Jaffna Galle Centurions (P5, W3, L3) were the three other teams joining the Titans in the Playoffs Round quest for championship title honors.
                                         
Gujarat Toronto Challengers, Karachi Chandigarh Kings and the Mumbai Lahore Knights were the three remaining team’s which comprised the tournament’s Inaugural Season roster. The seven participating teams have been competing for championship honors as well as their fair share of the available $30,000 in prize monies since the 2022 Smart Investments Canadian Friendship Cup got underway on the June 10th. The tournament’s 2022 Inaugural Season’s matches are being played at the King City based turf-wicket equipped Maple Leaf Cricket Club.
June 20-23 are the scheduled dates for the tournament’s Playoff matches. The Final will be held on June 24 with June 25 scheduled as a Reserve day in the event of bad weather. All matches are being played at King City’s Maple Leaf Cricket Club.
                                                                                                                                                               
Bangalore Peshawar Titans’ Canadian National U19 player Ethan Gibson, with an aggregate of 210 runs from 5 innings batted at a 50.00 average, had led the batsmen as the tournament’s highest run scorer at the conclusion of its preliminary Round matches. Second in the top run scorers standing, with a 160 run aggregate and just 40 runs behind Gibson, was the Canadian National Senior Men’s batsman Rayyan Pathan. Playing for the Jaffna Galle Centurions Pathan’s 160 runs from as many innings batted have been scored at a 32.00 average.
                                                                                             
Among the bowlers, Kennon Tinto of the Jaffna Galle Centurions and Bangalore Peshawar Titans’ Abzal Dean had both captured 16 wickets to occupy the top two positions for the tournament’s leading wicket-takers. Tinto’s 16 wickets have so far been captured at a 7.75 average and 5.64 economy rate. Dean by comparison has taken his 16 wickets at a 6.12 average and 5.65 economy rate.

The 2022 Canadian Friendship Cup is being organized by Cricket Beyond Borders, a not-for- profit organization that aims to use the event as a platform to promote unity, harmony, and humanity to combine with sporting excellence and financial rewards. Under Smart Investment Property’s title Sponsorship, the tournament’s 2022 inaugural edition will include some very unique features such as high prize monies and amazing MVP prizes for each match.
