Carib Cup – Bahamas vs Cayman Bilateral T20I Series 2024
Cayman Islands got the better of ICC Americas cricket rivals, The Bahamas in the first of a 5-game series of T-20I matches being played at the Hanes Oval in The Bahamas.  The Bahamas, seeking to avenge a 5-0 series lost to the Cayman Islands in 2022, won the toss and inserted the visitors to have first knock on the matting.  Cayman Islands, featuring 3 debutants in the line-up started cautiously as the opening pair tried to come to grips with the pace and bounce of the unfamiliar surface. The team posted a respectable score of 169 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs, led masterfully by a superb knock of 73 not out, off 49 balls from debutant Sam Foster who struck 11 fours and 2 sixes.  He was ably assisted by another debutant Rickel Walker, who showed no nerves in hitting 6 fours and 1 six in getting a quick-fire 35 off 21 balls.  That partnership was worth 58 runs off 42 balls.  Sam Foster also featured in a low-order partnership with captain Conroy Wright worth 41 of 22 balls. Wright got 11.  Debutant opener Jermaine Baker also contributed 15 off 17 balls.  Bowling for The Bahamas, Bhumeshwar Jagroo took 2 for 32 off his 4 overs, Kevon Hinds 2 for 26 and captain Marc Taylor 2 for 31.
After the innings break, The Bahamas in their reply started with left-handed brothers Marc Taylor and Gregory Taylor Jr.  The pair had put on 36 for the first wicket when Marc Taylor was out for 9 after he skied an attempted pull off pacer DeMar Johnson.  Conroy Wright took a well-judged catch running back to deep mid-wicket. Gregory Taylor Jr soon followed as he turned a ball from Johnson to short fine leg where Sam Foster took a low catch diving forward.  The Bahamas then were 45 for 2 off 7.5 overs.  That brought together Ryan Tappin and Jagnauth Jagroo who put on a partnership of 62 for the third wicket and threatened to take The Bahamas to victory.  Tappin, who seem to prefer the faster bowling, got 34 from 38 balls and Jagroo, who was severe on anything pitched up fell 4 runs short of a deserved half-century with 6 fours and 3 sixes off 25 balls.   However, the Cayman Islands were never out of the game and took wickets at regular intervals to peg back The Bahamas’ charge.  In the end, The Bahamas ran out of overs and got up to 151 for 5 off their allotted 20, with DeMar Johnson the pick of the Cayman bowlers with 3 for 26 off 3 overs to give Cayman the victory by 18 runs.  Man-of-the-match was Sam Foster.  The series continues with a double-header on Saturday March 30.
