Match Summary 7/4/2018

An overwhelming response for the availability and presence of almost all the players before the reporting time were well evident of the excitement and intriguingness for the 3 match series.

Jagrit won the toss and put GDL 2 to field given the fact the pitch was wet and bit of a bowler friendly at least for 1st 10 overs of the game.

1st Innings:

Dilip opened the spell for GDL 1, from GDL 2 it was Rupesh and Jay to open the innings.
Though the pitch offered some skid due to wetness and with the dancing swings, GDL 1 struggled with the line and gave away free runs to GDL 2 as extras from the start.
Into 2 overs of the game, when GDL 2 was offered with enough runs as extras on the board(9/0 2-overs).
Rupesh got into a needless pushing mode and went for a rash shot, but Asish blessed Rupesh with one more life by dropping a sitter J.
Later the life given to Rupesh was taken away by Rajnish with a brilliant swing delivery only to kiss the stumps hard.
Quickly after some time Jay followed Rupesh to the pavilion with a complacent shot against a once again beautiful swing delivery  by Rajnish and giving an edge to Mahesh’s gloves.
With 15 for 2 and still 22 overs to go GDL 2 was on a thin line. That’s when Vivek and Buddha in the middle planned to break the momentum GDL 1 had,so did they with an anchoring innings.
Vivek in the 12th over of the innings, after a well-timed six, went for pride against a good half volley delivery by Jagrit and  returned to pavilion after raja taking a very good catch on the  long on.
Lalit joined buddha, but came back quickly as Jagrit bowled him out.
Buddha after sometime in the middle could have become insipid to return back as Jagrit bowled him out, that’s when Muralli came to the crease.
As the name goes, it was towering sixes and powerful fours from then on.
One six on the long-on nearly would have reached 100 meters and everyone on the ground were for some time watching stars. Muralli scored 57 of 34 balls.
Meanwhile Rohit, Gowtham and Kavi supported Muralli with a sensible second fiddle.
At the end of the innings GDL 2 put a strong defendable target on the board with 164 for 25 overs.

From GDL 1 it was Jagrit who turned the tide time and again with a brilliant bowling performance taking a 5 wicket haul, not to forget Dilip and Rajnish with some cobra swings and proved their mettle.
From GDL 2 it was Muralli the game changer and took away the confident of GDL 2 bowlers.

2nd Innings:

Mahesh and Vignesh opened the innings for GDL 1 and it was Gowtham from GDL 2 as usual to start the spell.
Mahesh with his usual best of leg glance had his moment of hitting a boundary over the midwicket in second over of the innings.
Vignesh who is a fresh face to the team didn’t spent much time in the crease and gave away his wicket poorly with an LBW for a dipping full toss by Gowtham.
Then this time it was Lalit who with his ever strict line of delivery sent Mahesh out for lbw.
Now Asish and Amit in the middle didn't gave further hope to GDL 2 rather started taking away the game with some exquisite shots and sensible defence.
One thing GDL 2 was doing right at any point of time were giving less extras, which had put pressure on the batsmen’s to score runs quickly since the run rate were dipping for the chase.
Into 9th over of the game, kavi broke the partnership taking the wicket of Asish by giving a catch to the short third man Vivek.
Sujit came and went out quickly as Srini bowled him out, and the score now looks 41/4  9.1 overs.
Meanwhile Amit throwed some ray of hope by scoring few boundaries before losing his wicket to Bravin.
Then came in the ever dependable batsman of GDL 1 Devvrat.
But very unlike of his characteristics left the field for nearly an unplayable delivery by Srini which knocked the bails out.
The disciplined bowling of GDL 2 didn’t allowed captain Jagrit to stay more on the crease as he returned back not before hitting a lofted six over the mid-off.
By the time Ojas and Dilip joined the hands for doing the rest of the job the score didn’t looked quite convincing with 93/7 for 18 overs.
The chase now looked little mammoth i.e 7 overs 71 runs.
Dilip looked calm and composed but received a blow on his head from a nasty bounce of a good length delivery by Lalit which was quite unpredicted and uneven.
Dilip has to retire-hurt as the pain didn’t allowed him to continue.
Now GDL 2 has reached to a position of unassailable lead in the game.
Nothing more to say as GDL 2 won by 33 runs as GDL 1 was All out for 131.

From GDL 2 almost all the bowlers were well disciplined in their line and length.
Kavi, Bravin,Srini,Gowtham,Lalit and charan were at their prime form in disturbing the batsmen’s.
Failure of partnerships and a kind of innings Murali played was the gap which otherwise could have seated GDL 1 in the winning seat.
MOM :- Murali.
