Bharath banishes the Kings:

It was a quiet Saturday morning and I was playing practice match. Opened the app and I saw Southside punishing Kings in every which way possible. I refreshed the page about a million times as I was not able to believe the score that I was looking at. It read 255, two hundred and freaking fifty five. It hurt to just look at the score, not sure how Kings felt after the hurricane called Bharath. K. Southside won the toss and what a toss to win! Openers gave a decent start to Southside, when Punit fell in 3rd over. In came Bharath K, he just played one of the best innings in FCA history. I am witnessing one great performance after another in this tournament and Bharath raised the bar high enough so that the next player who reaches it must be special. Bharath’s unbeaten 128 from 58 balls (12 6s and 9 4s, can you believe that 12 6s), with support from Praveen, Sanjay and Punit propelled Southside to a total of 255 for 2. This is the highest score in an FCA 20 overs format. Southside secured a memorable 213 runs win against Kings. Kings tried to take on Southside pace bowlers but couldn’t get through as Southside’s Praful took 4 wickets restricting kings to 42 runs. Overall it was really a bad day for kings and I am sure they would like to forget it and come back stronger in their next game.
Talking over phone, Southside player Ramana said “I am still trying to believe how it can turn around so fast, but am happy to be part of this record setting game and being on the winning side”.
We also called Bharath for his statement but couldn’t get much from him as he was really humble talking to us that nothing great happened except the joy that his team has won. He also admitted he was at a loss to explain his stunning turnaround in fortunes.
What a game of cricket we have witnessed, this tournament is churning one great match after another and one can only presume there will be much more to come as we get closer to playoffs. I have my seat belts and airbags on and am ready for a great ride ahead.

Royals gets a narrow win against Outsiders

I should stop using the word thriller or nail biter as every other match happen to be one. Another thrilling chase from Outsiders fell just short of 4 runs of producing victory against Royals. It wasn’t that long for me to settle down over my excitement from previous match where I have got into another thriller (sorry, has to use it). Royals winning the toss has elected to bat first, which turned out to be the best decision on given conditions. Royals though lost their first wicket quickly but that couldn’t restrict them to less total as it was Bala who scored 70 runs in 40 balls. Gone those days where team totals were 50 or 60 or 70 in San Jose, as these individual scores itself are 70’s 80’s and not to forget 128. Its bowlers who are getting frustrated for giving more runs and they are tested to core in bowling the right length. Even slight margin of error and they are being punished for a boundary. Outsiders bowling unit had a decent start but couldn’t restrict Royals to less total as Bala and Pinak’s (35 runs) partnership helped Royals post a total of 159 runs on board. Chasing 160, Outsiders got a good start from Mohan. Ramu, Shekhar chipped in with 26 and 15 respectively. The game was slipping away from Outsiders where the equation was 3 overs and 39 required but Venkat and AG played aggressive. These young chaps made sure to hit the ball so hard to bring it down to 6 balls 9 runs. Now it was a most dramatic situation between Royals Captain Suresh vs in form batsmen Venkat, the pendulum could have swung either way but at last experience mattered as Suresh was able to hold his nerves bowling in block hole missing the batsmen and going into keeper. There were many turning points as Sushil was the one taking 3 crucial catches pulling it from nowhere, such crunch matches are good to watch but heart breaking for losing team as it could have turned either way. Outsiders did the best throughout this tournament but fell short yet again to win a game. Since this being their third loss, the chances of them qualifying are very less. All I can say is good luck in the future.

RP Rockers qualify into playoffs

This time it was just a calm morning watching IPL, switching on FCA website to check scores. RP Rockers sealed their 4th win in FCA guaranteeing them a place in Quarters. After choosing to bat, Anil led RP Rockers batting effort with a brisk 33 and 40. Warrior got few quick wickets, but couldn’t contend Manish and Antony. The eventually scored 137 of their 20 overs. Iqbal was the pick of the bowlers taking 3 wickets. In reply Warrrior XI had lost their inform batsmen Liberton for just 4 runs to Robin. It was Zhiva (10) and Senthil S (40) who made sure that the score was ticking but had to fall for Saminathan and Anupam at end. It wasn’t enough for Balaji to save the day for Warrior XI as RP Rockers bowling unit has restricted them to 99 runs. This will be the first loss for Warriors XI and hoping that they will be coming back strong for next game against experienced googlies and energetic 22 balls.

Kaatans invade Invaders

At this point am exhausted of saying another high scoring match, because I strongly believe that the quality of cricket played in this tournament has set a new standard. Kaatans have scored the second highest total in FCA history if I am not mistaken (at least in this tournament). The way bowlers are handling tremendous pressure at crunch times, batsmen’s temperament in scoring runs, fielders holding their nerves in taking catches or stopping runs at crucial moments all leads to only one goal which is raising the standard of FCA.
Kataans winning the toss elected to bat, where their top order dismantled Invaders bowling attack. Rajbabu, Srinivasan and Saravana gave a blasting start by scoring 40, 29, 23 runs which was carried over by Raam and Akash who acted as catalyst scoring 31 and 39. At the end of the massacre Kaatans scored 193 runs. In return Kataans bowling attack Chandra and Saravan just simply rattled Invaders top order by getting them for 0's. However it was Rajesh and Girish who stood up for their team by scoring 31 and 19 each but that wasn't enough. In end Aditya chipped in scoring 25 runs for a decent total of 118 runs in 20 overs. Kaatans winning by 75 runs have moved up the points table with good run rate. All they have to do is win their final game against Kings and they will be though for the next round.
