About Us

From its onset, Cricket has been a sport played with emphasis on acting as a gentleman and being fair. The phrase "It is not Cricket" captures this essence beautifully. Virtues like giving the benefit of the doubt, both in cricket and everyday life create friendship and harmony. Other sports have rules as well but cricket has its own culture. Gradually the culture is changing with influences like excessive celebration in other sports and players not acting as gentlemen all the time. GPCL strives to revive the true spirit of cricket with respect and equality for all the teams and their members. Being democratic, transparent and adherence to the true spirit of cricket are the principles that this league vows to uphold.

The majority of the cricket clubs in the Greater Philadelphia area have played cricket in the Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Washington area. Initially we decided to put together a league comprising 8 teams and playing 14 fixtures in a home and away format. To our surprise, hunger for a new league was so overwhelming that now we have 20 teams with a few more requesting to join. While this is a tremendous honor, it is a huge responsibility as well. We are very confident that if we make all the clubs partners in sharing this responsibility, we will be successful. All the teams being equal partners will also create education and leadership and will ensure the longevity of this league.

As the president, I humbly thank all for their very hard work in starting this league. Special thanks go to Waqas, Terry, Kamran and Ernie for being the founder members and to Adrian, Anand and Mahesh for serving on the Executive Committee. We will keep you updated with the fixtures and other exciting events. Following is the list of all the office bearers, clubs and their contacts. You will also find the links to our By- Laws and minutes of all meetings held. We promise again to make all decisions together and to keep everyone informed.
