Location: Ames
Match Documents:
The second semifinal of the one day game series of HCL was played at Ames between the two university teams - Iowa State Cyclones and Iowa Hawkeyes - who respectively finished second and third in the league stage. HWK won the toss and decided to bat first. The captains decision was immediately justified by the opening pair of Urvil and Abhay who raced away to a partnership of 41 runs in just 6 overs. After the dismissal of Abhay, Parin was solid in defense and secured one end, while Urvil continued to take on the ISU bowlers. Dismissal of Urvil for a run-a-ball 59, triggered a middle order collapse where Hawkeyes lost four wickets in a space of 9 runs. The skipper Sachin and Parin then came together to stitch a 50 run partnership, rotating the strike rather than going for extravagant shots. After Parin was denied a well deserved half century, thanks to a good effort in the field, Vartoolha wrapped up the tail, picking up the last four wickets. Sachin remained not out on 27. The Hawkeyes were all out for 195 in 37.2 overs. ISU chase of the target did not begin well as they lost two wickets in the second over and one more in the fourth. THe ISU captain, Sannel took matters in his own hands and began scoring at brisk pace. Unfortunately for ISU, he did not get good support at the other end, and the cyclones kept on losing wickets at regular interval. Brajesh sent down a marathon spell of 8 overs on the trot, that was characterized by well controlled swing bowling. The Hawkeye skipper shuffled six spinners at the other end, constantly tempting the batsman to hit out, which they did, as they found it difficult to score against Brajesh. After Sannel was dismissed for a well made half century, the lower order did not offer much resistance with the exception of Salman who made 18 and the ISU innings was wrapped up for 123 in 27.4 overs. The Hawkeyes won the match by 72 runs and will face KCC in the finals.
