Australia opener Travis Head showcased his exceptional form by scoring 30 runs from one Sam Curran over during the opening T20I match against England. Head's performance was a key factor in Australia's 28-run victory in Southampton on Wednesday. Head hit three fours and three massive sixes during the fifth over of Australia's innings, propelling his team to a formidable total of 179 at The Rose Bowl. England, in response, were bowled out for just 151. This remarkable feat ties Head with the Australian men's record for the most runs scored in a single T20I over. He joins an exclusive group of players, including Ricky Ponting, Daniel Christian, and Mitch Marsh, who have achieved this milestone. Globally, the record for the most runs in a single T20I over was set last month by Samoa's Darius Visser, who scored 39 runs against Vanuatu. Additionally, five players have managed to score 36 runs in one over, including Yuvraj Singh's iconic performance at the 2007 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Against England, Head reached his half-century inside the Powerplay and formed a solid partnership with fellow opener Matt Short (41), contributing to an 86-run opening stand. This was Head's fourth T20I half-century of the year, cementing his status as the top-ranked player in the ICC Men's T20I Batter Rankings. Australia appeared set for a total exceeding 200 runs, but Liam Livingstone's late spell (3/22) curtailed their progress. Nevertheless, Australia posted an impressive target. The Australian bowling attack was equally effective, with veteran seamer Josh Hazlewood (2/32), Adam Zampa (2/20), and Sean Abbott (3/28) dismantling the English batting lineup, ensuring a comfortable win. With this victory, Australia leads the three-match series 1-0, with the next game scheduled to take place in Cardiff on Friday. |
