Sumesh, Sam setup a big win for CCCCR

In the much awaited game that had its fair amount of shifts, Sumesh (55*) and Sam (25*) played an important role to take CCCCR past the finishing line by six wickets against LTI in the second match of Lance Binns League.
The match started with great anticipation and buzz. LTI won the toss and elected to bat. The idea to choose batting and to post a formidable total that would allow their bowlers ample leeway was considered a good choice. Captain Gaurav who went on to score 33, executed the plan well. However, patrons of his idea did not support the cause. Tushar’s wobbly start consumed 14 balls to only mange getting out to a beeline from Sam. Mathew cleaned up Bharath. Tushar (3) and Bharath (4) did not purterb Mayur who walked in next. His inning included two sixes that came from Sham’s over number 13. Gaurav (33), Mayur (23) and Purushottam (15) gave LTI a decent total. Sham bowled out Gaurav in the tenth over. Aditya ran out Mayur and Sam wrapped Purushottam on the pads. Sam also picked Mallikarjun (5) in the same over registering the top spot of the bowling chart with three sclaps. LTI lost two more in the very next over to a runout from Sham victimizing Shameer (9) and the his next ball clean bowled Akash (0). Madan (7) lofted one to the fielder at point of the bowling from Sudesh. Alok and Debashish did not open their account with their team posting 122 on board - score largely considerd insufficient but some good bowling and fortuity should have got them past the mark.
The veterans chased down the target of 123 in 17.2 overs despite the early pressure built by picking the wickets of big three, Prajwel (3), Aditya (9) and Sudesh (1). The debutant Dev started the innings decisively along with opener Sumesh. The partnership was fragmented by Sameer who yorked Dev for 12. The resurrection from there on seemed difficult for CCCCR with three wickets falling in next 30 deliveries for 29 runs of the bat. Tushar executed well the LTI captain’s strategy to beguile Prajwel with slow ball by boggling him with a delivery that did very little but was good enough to deceive the batsman. Prajwel’s LBW soon had Aditya on strike who came with an intent to work the ball around with his sweeps and drives ladled one to Mallikarjun who took a beauty of a catch at short mid-wicket. Sudesh next in was offhandedly stumped while a raucous appeal was made by the opponents for a caught behind. The impasse gave LTI a small window of opportunity to make a comeback. Sam, whose newfound habit of getting off the mark with six did not hold himself from doing so. His positive approach encouraged the set batsman in Sumesh to play with poise. Both remained unbeaten and responsibly took their team past the winning mark. Sumesh’s fifty, the first of the tournament came from four fours and a six. With this CCCCR registered their first win adding 2 points to their tally. LTI would consider this as missed opportunity and look to better their performance in the next. Contingents of CRACA, who still sit on top of the table by virtue of net run rate and Corsairs, were seen practicing for their forthcoming contests.
