WILD CARD MATCH: RAINIER V GLACIERS Firstly to give context to all the readers, wild card match was played between the top 2 teams out of all 9 teams which were not able to reach the semis directly from league rounds. Points and run rate were considered and Rainiers and Glaciers made to it . Coming to the match itself, in one of the most exciting matches of the MCL so far, both the teams played a high quality match and gave a great exhibition of cricketing skills. Everything was on display here- good bowling, excellent fielding, pressure batting . Ultimately it came down to nerves and it was Rainiers which edged out Glaciers slightly in that department and booked the final spot for Semis. Rainiers batted first in the crucial encounter and put up a compeititive total of 88 in 16 overs. Middle order played well with Ajit making an important 27 of 31 balls. Glaciers bowling though good was again marred by lots of extras which helped the cause of Rainiers. In reply Glacier openers added 41 for 1st wicket in 8 overs and then 20 more for 2nd wicket. It looked like a cake walk for them from here on but as we say 'Cricket is a game of glorious uncertainities' . A combination of nervers and tight bowling from Rainiers led to a collapse and Glaciers could only muster 83 thus losing by 5 runs. This match was embodiment of what MCL is all about and how much passion and committement is installed in everyone who is attached to MCL. Kudos to both teams for all the entertainment and hopefully final 3 matches continue to enthrall. BRING IT ON |
