A cricket journey that began from a tender age of seven years old saw Ahmad Faiz bin Mohammad Noor enter his first competition three years later, all thanks to his father who introduced him to the sport. And, from that point, there was no turning back for him. Faiz enveloped himself in the sport where every waking moment was about cricket. His love for the sport and efforts were clearly demonstrated on field. A disciplined young man, Ahmad Faiz Mohd Noor made his mark as batsman both on national and international ground. Seeing his dedication, Ahmad Faiz bin Mohammad Noor was handed the task of Captaincy for the National Men’s Team in 2013. For the decade that followed, he led by example and had the respect of all his teammates through the highs and lows of the game. Faiz was the pillar behind the boys. Faiz rise a player and the manner of his captaincy soon earned him an affectionate nickname. The local fans and cricket fraternity began to refer to him as “Captain Marvel” Faiz. One of the more memorable events under the playing career of Faiz would be the 2017 SEA Games, where the team clinched Gold in the T20i Format and Silver in the 50 Overs Category. His consistency and even temperament are some of his best attributes as a player and a captain that glued the team together, leading the Malaysia team to be in the top 25 ICC World Ranking. In his humble demeanour Faiz said, “I owe my gratitude to my former Vice Captain Mohd Anwar Arudin and my present Vice Captain, the talented Virandeep Singh”. Additionally, the guidance and support from the team managers both past and present and off course our coaches all of whom have played an integral role in shaping the team and in getting us to where we are today.” “The time is right for the baton to be passed on and I am indeed honoured to hand over the reign to Virandeep Singh” a talented player who is much sought after. In the ICC World Ranking, Viran is currently positioned 83 under the Men’s T20i All Rounder Ranking. Virandeep Singh acknowledged the hand-over and thanked his predecessor for his years of service He added that ‘It’s an absolute honour to be given an opportunity to lead the country, I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead’. This is an important couple of years for Malaysia Cricket and I believe that it is equally important for all of us in the system to work together for the benefit of cricket in our country”. President of Malaysian Cricket Association, Mohammed Iqbal Ali bin Kassim Ali, thanked Ahmad Faiz Noor for his years of dedication as Captain of the National Men’s Team. The President announced that the finale of “Captain Marvel” Ahmad Faiz Mohd Noor’s duty as skipper of the team will be at the Malaysia Open T20i Championship which will take place on home ground from 5th - 12th March 2024. Mohammed Iqbal Ali added “I would like to put on record our gratitude towards your tireless contribution and sacrifices made for the sport and for our “negara tercinta”- (beloved country). Nonetheless, we look forward to you contributing as a player, and we are confident that there will be many runs coming off your bat.” The President went on to congratulate the incoming Captain saying that “I look forward to Viran steering the team to even greater ranks and I am confident of his capabilities both as a player and a leader”. Viran takes over as Captain commencing from the prep -tour to Sri Lanka and Hong Kong from 10 January 2024 to 10 February 2024, in preparation for the upcoming ICC CWC Challenge League Playoff, which is a 50 Over format, while the role of Vice Captain will be handed over to yet another talented player, Syed Aziz Syed Mubarak who also has his list of achievements to his name. Syed Aziz, among his list of achievements, was once ranked 99 in the ICC Men’s T20i Batting Ranking and was also the first batter to score a century in the 2023 Asian Games. Malaysian Cricket Association extends its congratulations to both Virandeep Singh and Syed Aziz and looks forward to working with them for the benefit and betterment of cricket in Malaysia. On this note, the Association is confident that the incoming captain will live up to the legacy of skipper Ahmad Faiz, who is wished a successful career ahead of him as teacher of the Bukit Jalil Sports School of which he is an alumnus. -END- |
