STROKES OF CONFIDENCE, STRENGTH, AND HIGH ADRENALIN MEET THE  ACC WOMEN'S T20 CHAMPIONSHIP 2022

There is much excitement surrounding the ACC WOMEN’S T20 CHAMPIONSHIP 2022 and understandably too -The championship bounces back after a nine -year absence.

UAE, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Nepal, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Bahrain, Singapore and Bhutan will be showcasing their best cricket on the grounds at Kinrara Oval and YSD UKM Oval to win the qualifying round of this tournament for the two available spots that will take them to the Asia Cup.
Speaking on behalf of their teams, the captains are in high spirits and raring to lead their team to qualify for the Asia Cup. 

First off we spoke to Bhutan’s Dechen Wangmo, who told us that her team spent “one month on intensive training and on a high-performance programme and we  stand as good a chance as any of the other teams”.

UAE who’s U19 team is fresh out of victory in the ICC CWC U19 Women’s Asia Qualifiers exudes confidence. Team Captain – Chaya Mughal, told us that they have been “practising under the scorching summer heat and have been playing with the boy’s squad, a number of the U19 girls are on this senior team as well”. Chaya added that “when we get together to play as a team, we all have the same dream: to win all of our games and advance to the next level. However, God forbid, if things don't go our way, we still have a long way to go.” There is no shortcut to success, and whether we win or lose, we must continue to work hard.

Kary Chan Ka Ying, Captain of the Hong Kong team said that her team intends to “just enjoy every match and give 100% to the tournament.” Asked if the team faced any setbacks, she said that “there were not too many albeit all the girls not being from the same place, we managed to train and learn from each other.”  The team plans to plan to take this experience to the ground.

In every game, one needs to know the opponent’s weakness and strength. And, Nepal team Captain Rubina Chhetry Belbasashi believes this is the ace up their sleeves. She states “We know the strength and weakness of the squads in this tournament as we have played against them. The team has practised up to six hours a day for at a training camp in preparation and we have all the possible chances of coming out champions.”

For Oman it’s all about technique skill and effort. Vaishali Jesrani said “We have been playing domestic leagues on regular basis and we have had GCC tournament exposure which will be beneficial for us at this tournament. Our team attends regular training session for improvement their skills & technique. With all the time and efforts by the girls and coaches we will  definitely try to make an impact.”

Deepika Rasangika Captain of Team Bharain had this to say “Our strength is mainly our batting and the collectively playing as a team in all the aspects. Mentally, we are prepared to compete against the stronger sides. Given the amount of resources we have, we have prepared as much as we can with the guidance of our coaching staff.”

Captain of the Qatar Cricket Team- Ayesha said “wining, is part of the game but learning from the game and improving to the next level is the key.” We will put in hundred percent and keep the game simple.” 
 
Singapore’ s , Shafina Mahesh says  “It has been two and a half years since our last tournament so there’s loads of excitement within especially with our fresh faces. We’ll look to take it game by game, ball by ball. Everyone has been working on their strengths and weaknesses accordance to their role with matches in between. With 7 of our squad members debuting and myself leading a side for the first time in an ACC tournament, I’m fairly excited for us as a team to play hard together and move forward to qualify for Asia Cup.”

Captain for Team Kuwait stated “Our practices have been continuous but the number of sessions increased once the ACC qualifiers were announced. The girls have been putting in the hard yards for a while and I hope we can express ourselves in the best way possible in every aspect.”  On the strength of her team, she said, “Our strength lies in our unity, as we have displayed that in the past as well. It will help us overcome the toughest of challenges at any time.”

Last but not least Winifred Duraisingam, Captain of team Malaysia the host country, is filled with optimism. “My team has prepped well in terms of mental strength, right now we are in high spirits and with the right mental strength we can bring our best to the tournament.” “My advice to the team is to not focus on the results but on putting in all the effort. I hope to be able to showcase our best.”  She concluded saying “ at the end of the day we must respect the game and play to the best of our abilities.”

From the tone of the captains,  spirits are high all around and energy levels are soaring, This ACC Women’s T20 Championship seems set to have showstopping performances.
