MALAYSIA CLINCHES VICTORY IN THE SAUDARI CUP AGAINST SINGAPORE

The Malaysia Women’s  Team, had  a mammoth victory against arch rivals Singapore in the recently concluded Women’s T 20 Asia Cup Qualifiers 2022.  At the annual Saudari Cup that  took place on the 8th of July till the 10th  July between the two rivals, Singapore would have yearned for a comeback. Unfortunately for them it wasn’t quite the case in fact quite the contrary which saw the Malaysia women’s national team whitewash Singapore in the Three match series that was played at the Indian Association Ground in Singapore.

The first game was in retrospect the closest game of the three -match bout which saw Singapore bat first and only managed 78 runs losing 9 wickets in their 20 overs. Stand out performances with the ball we’re Sasha Azmi (4-2-7)  and Arianna Natasha (4-2-20). The chase was a bit nervy as we saw a middle order collapse in the latter part of the innings but a great hand from Wan Julia (30 of 44) and Winifred Duraisingam (18 of 25) saw Malaysia chase down the score in the 14th over to win the game by 6 wickets. The second and third game had very similar outcomes with Malaysia batting first on both occasions. The second game Malaysia managed a grand total of 145 runs courtesy of a composed innings by Mas Elysa (51 of 48) and an excellent knock under pressure from Elsa Hunter (53 of 45). Malaysia with another all -round performance restricted Singapore to 70 and took all their wickets with the help of the talented youngster Nur Dania (4-4-14) and our most consistent bowler in Sasha Azmi (4-3-10)  completely obliterating Singapore’s batting line-up.

The final game summed up Malaysia’s outing in the Saudari Cup 2022 in great fashion as we saw yet another amazing display with the bat from Elsa hunter (45 of 22) and Mas Elysa playing that anchor role yet again with (35 of 42). Once more, the Malaysian tigresses bowled out Singapore in their third consecutive game, failing to pass 80 runs.  With a fascinating spell yet again from none other than Sash Azmi (4-4-20) collecting her 9th wicket of the tournament followed by Mas Elysa (4-2-19) that saw Malaysia lift the Saudari Cup in style.

Individual performances were recognised as well, with Elsa Hunter being awarded the Best Batsman award with her more than handy 95 runs in the span of three games showing what an absolute talent we have in our arsenal, as well as Sasha Azmi being awarded the Best Bowler of the tournament with 9 wickets in three games. She has been an absolute asset for this Malaysian side and going forward we will see plenty of her in the international arena.

Finishing runners up in the ACC Women’s T20 Championship and clinching victory against Singapore in the Saudari Cup has moved Malaysia up to 29th rank from its 33rd ranking.
