Nigar Sultana Joty’s 53 (34) powered Bangladesh to 129/5 before their bowlers made short work of Malaysia’s batting order, dismissing them for 41 inside 19 overs for a comfortable victory. After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Bangladesh lost Shamima Sultana off the first ball of the match when she was trapped in front by Sasha Azmi. This was followed by a spell of nine consecutive dot balls before Murshida Khatun hit Aisya Eleesa for a boundary to get herself and her team off the mark. Bangladesh, however, continued to be frustrated by a Malaysian attack that would go onto conceded a mere 2 runs in extras throughout the innings. With pressure growing on her team, Fargana Hoque Pinky charged down the track to Mahirah Izzati only to be stumped after the off-spinner saw her coming and bowled the ball beyond her reach. At 34 for 2 in the ninth over, Malaysia had a chance to turn the screws even further. Unfortunately, the Winifred Duraisingam-led unit dropped multiple catches in the middle phase of the innings, allowing Bangladesh to recover to 87 for 2 after 16 overs. Joty then launched an assault on Nur Dania, dispatching her for six over the deep mid wicket rope to go along with two fours in the 17th over, which cost 18 runs in total. Malaysia, to their credit, fought back with a pair of run outs courtesy of Mas Elysa and Arianna Natasya. In spite of this, Bangladesh were able to post a daunting 129 for 5 at the end of their 20 overs. In reply, Malaysia got off to a steady start with Elsa Hunter being promoted up to open with Duraisingam after Wan Julia was dropped for this game. Malaysia was 13 for no loss in the sixth over and contemplating an acceleration. Yet, left-arm seamer Fariha Trisna had other ideas. She bowled Duraisingam with a peach of a delivery that swung back into her before trapping Mas Elysa in front off another inswinger. Trisna completed her hat-trick by disturbing Mahirah Izzati’s middle stump. Malaysia never recovered from this, eventually folding for 41 as Bangladesh’s spinners put on a master class to seal an 88-run win.
