Rubina Chhetry Stars as Nepal Level Series 1-1

Nepal captain Rubina Chhetry took two for 16 to limit Malaysia to 97 for five before she hit an unbeaten 29 off 21 to seal the chase with 15 balls to spare in the second match of the T20I Bilateral Series.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Malaysia got off to a tidy start. Winifred Duraisingam clipped Kabita Kunwar off her pads for four in the first over before she combined with Wan Julia to regularly find gaps and keep the scorecard ticking. Duraisingam hit Ashmina Karmacharya for four to close out the Powerplay on 30 for no loss.

Chhetry helped Nepal claw back when she bowled Duraisingam with a beautiful arm ball that clipped the opener’s off stump. Mas Elysa hit the ground running with a square cut off Karmacharya before dispatching Sita Rana Magar to the fence for her second boundary.

Yet, Nepal fought back, refusing to concede another boundary in the last eight overs of the innings. Chhetry would prove to be the difference again, trapping Elysa in front en route to Nepal restricting their opposition to a sub-100 total.

Chasing 98 to win, Nepal managed to see out the new ball before Sita Rana Magar lifted Ainna Hamizah over long off for the first six of the day. Off-spinner Nik Atiela continued her good form, bowling Magar for 23 to restrict Nepal to 33 for one after seven overs.

Bindu Rawal and opener Kabita Kunwar then stitched together a 30-run stand to steer Nepal to safety. After Rawal was caught behind off Duraisingam’s bowling, Chhetry walked in at four and assumed the mantle of aggressor.

The Nepal captain closed out the chase with a slog that sailed well over the deep mid wicket rope as Nepal’s dugout celebrated a convincing win.
