Rubina Chhetry’s 27 off 15 powered Nepal to 110 for five before their bowlers stifled Malaysia’s chase to deliver a 27-run win for the visitors in the third game of the Bilateral Women’s T20I Series. Today’s win sees Nepal take a 2-1 lead in the series with two games left to play. After being put into bat, Nepal got off to a slow start as Nik Atiela bowled Kabita Kunwar in the second over of the game. Jyoti Pandey broke a drought of boundaries by slogging Ainna Hamizah into the leg side for four to bring the score to 16 for one at the end of five overs. Pandey continued to favour the leg side, striking two more boundaries in her knock of 23 before top-edging an Aisya Eleesa delivery to Aina Najwa in the circle. Malaysia continued to restrict the flow of boundaries, which may have led to Sita Rana Magar’s dismissal when the left-hander was caught by Mahirah Izzati at mid off, giving Winifred Duraisingam her first wicket. At 70 for three in the 15th over, Malaysia would have been hoping to restrict the opposition under 100. Yet, Nepal skipper Rubina Chhetry had other ideas. She charged down the track to loft Nik Atiela over deep mid wicket for the only six of the game. Her knock of 27 off 15, which also included three fours, propelled Nepal to a challenging 110 for five at the end of their innings. Chasing 5.55 runs an over for victory, Malaysia got off to a quick start with Winifred Duraisingam driving a four through the covers in the first over. Wan Julia joined in the party with a boundary in the second over before a misunderstanding with her opening partner saw her fall short of her crease while attempting a second run. Malaysian skipper Mas Elysa was next to go, getting trapped in front by a full delivery from Kabita Kunwar. Malaysia slowed down after Elysa’s wicket, reaching 38 for two at the end of ten overs. The second half of the innings would prove only marginally more profitable for the home side. Other than Mahirah Izzati, who scored 44, her career-best T20I score, no other batter was able to counter the threat posed by Nepal’s bowlers. Malaysia’s innings would end on 83 for four as Rubina Chhetry took home her second successive Player of the Match award.
