Quick-fire centuries from Shiv Mathur (144) and Shreyan Chyau (129) powered Hong Kong and Singapore to wins over Indonesia and Maldives, respectively on day one of the ACC Men’s Under-16 East Zone Cup. Hong Kong vs Indonesia After electing to bat first, Hong Kong lost Arya Panjwani in the third over after the opener was caught by Beni Taruk off the bowling of Gede Teguh Pranatha. Aarez Dar joined eventual player-of-the-match Mathur at the crease, stabilizing the innings and pushing the score to 19 for one at the end of five overs. This, however, would prove to be the calm before the storm. Mathur hit Made Rama for consecutive fours in the sixth over before repeating the dose against Erianto in the eighth over. Aarez Dar got into the act, striking Putu Eka Rekananda for his first boundary of the innings. Sahil drew a false shot from Mathur, which the right-hander edged through the slip cordon for four before he pulled the Indonesian seamer away for four to push Indonesia’s run rate close to seven an over after 12 overs. It wasn’t until the 26th over that Indonesia managed to take a wicket. By that time Mathur had muscled six maximums and 21 fours in his 144 off 78 balls. Although he could not bat through the innings, Dar hit four sixes in his 86 as Hong Kong registered a mammoth 337 for 6 in their 35 overs. Hong Kong’s Paarth Srivastava kicked off the second innings in style by bowling opposition skipper Pranatha before getting Sahil caught behind to restrict Indonesia to 10 for 2 in the fourth over. Soon after being thrown the ball, Harry Thomas responded by bowling opener Erianto for 3 before dismissing Ahmad Zidanne for a first-ball duck. Made Rama top-socred with an innings of 10 that included two boundaries. Yet, after he was bowled by Abhimanyu Aragorn Murali, it ended Indonesia’s hopes of a late order revival. They were eventually bowled out for 41 to give Hong Kong a 296-run win. Mohamed Miuvaan temporary halted the momentum by dismissing the Singaporean opener for 20 after he was caught by Mabsar Abdulla. Undettered, Chyau launched Ahmed Naisam for six in the very next over, before striking him for back-to-back fours. Yet, what stood in Chyau’s knock was his ability to turn the strike over. He collected 51 singles and ten twos in his 91-ball 129, which only included 16 dot balls. Raheel Thakkar gave him good company with 69 off 63 before Riaan Naik came in and hit two sixes in the final over to close the innings out on 279 for 3 in a curtailed 31-over contest. Chasing 280 for victory, Maldives were never really in with a chance. Captain Mabsar Abdulla had to leave the field early after he was retired hurt before fellow opener Yoosuf Laith was bowled in the sixth over. Maldives put on a brief show of resistance, reaching 31 for two. What followed, however, was a dramatic collapse that saw them lose their last seven wickets for the addition of just three runs as they were bowled out for 34 in the 19th over. Harsh Venkatram sealed the game by bowling Moosa Minhal from around the wicket to finish with a fifer.
