Day 3 of the ACC Men’s Under-16 East Zone Cup saw Hong Kong cruise to victory after bowling Maldives out for 45 and Nepal amassing 269 for eight before dismissing Thailand for 44 to win by 225 runs. Both of today’s winners have booked a place at the semi-finals taking place on Monday. Their opponents, much like the final standings in Group A and Group B are yet to be determined. Hong Kong U-16 Men vs Maldives U-16 Men After electing to bat, Maldives benefitted from a series of extras from Hong Kong and a pair of early boundaries from Adam Khalaf, reaching 31 for one in the seventh over. However, left-arm spinner Sheehan Audrey turned the tide by bowling Khalaf for 10. This would prove to be the highest individual score in Maldives’ innings. Paarth Srivastava had opposition skipper Mabsar Abdulla caught by Aarez Dar to pick up his second wicket before Audrey doubled his wicket tally by prizing out Mohamed Miuvaan. Eventual player-of-the-match Veer Mathur then strode to the bowling crease, trapping Hamd Hussain in front for a duck to restrict Maldives to 38 for five. He continued to target the stumps, bowling the middle order trio of Mizyan Ibrahim, Abdulla Kayan, and Mohamed Jood Shafee to finish with figures of 4-7 in five overs, which helped bowl Maldives out for 45 in the 19th over. Hong Kong barely endured a hiccup in their chase. Mizyan Ibrahim picked up the only wicket to fall, dismissing Fazal Abubakr for 10 to break a 39-run opening stand. Arya Panjwani hit the winning run, scoring a single to seal the chase in just 7.3 overs. Brief Scores: Hong Kong 46 for 1 in 7.3 Overs (Panjwani 17, Mizyan Ibrahim 1-12) beat Maldives 45 All Out in 18.4 Overs (Khalaf 10, Veer Mathur 4-7) by 9 wickets with 27.3 overs to spare Nepal U-16 Men vs Thailand U-16 Men After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Nepal got off to a flier picking up 53 runs in the first six overs. This was just the start of the carnage. Niraj Kumar Yadav launched into Ashirvad Narayan, taking 28 off his first over, including two pull shots that travelled over the rope and a drive that cleared long off. To their credit, Thailand pulled things back. Jet Sada took a catch to dismiss Yadav for 74 off 43, giving both his team and Eeshan Banerjee their first wicket with the score on 110 for one after 13 overs. Soon after Aashish Luhar got a six away, Banerjee dismissed him caught by Natpakhan Manowon. Suryanshu Koirala was next to go, getting bowled by Sada to leave Nepal 143 for three in the 20th over. Yet, with the help of Santosh Yadav’s 42 and Naren’s 55* Nepal were able to weather the storm of quick wickets to finish on an imposing 269 for eight at the end of their 35 overs. Ahhisekh Tiwari got the ball rolling for Nepal in the second innings, bowling Ashirvad Narayan for a duck before getting Jet Sada caught behind for the same score. A trio of boundaries from Banerjee was the only respite in an otherwise difficult innings for Thailand. When he was stumped for 16 by Luhar off the bowling of Ashok Dhami, it precipitated a slide that saw Thailand lose their last eight wickets for 12 runs. Santosh Yadav earned the Player-of-the-match award for his five-wicket haul, which included bowling Piyawat Nordi either side of trapping Sutthimon Thongsom and Suphanat Muangsai in front.
