PLAYING CONTRACTS AWARDED TO FIFTEEN NATIONAL WOMEN TEAM PLAYERS

For the first time in Malaysian Cricket history, there will be contracts awarded to fifteen (15) players from the women’s national team for a period of twelve months.

Taking a step in the right direction to create an equal playing field and equal opportunity for our women players, the contracts are tantamount to that awarded to our men’s team.

Speaking the on the award of the contracts to the fifteen (15) women cricketers, Malaysian Cricket Association President, Mahinda Vallipuram expressed pride saying that “this is a moment to be reckoned with. Malaysian Cricket has been creating pathways for our women players and working towards offering merit based opportunity for both men and women cricketers.”

Mahinda Vallipuram added “Malaysian Cricket has always prioritized women’s cricket, “and I know that these contracts will serve as a long term sustainable means and act as morale booster for our women. Contracts such as these often translates as a push factor for the rest of the team to work harder so as to be a recipient of a contract from MCA and this will further improve the ICC rankings.

The contracts stipulate allowances that will be paid based on the grades they are categorised in. Additionally, there is medical insurance, welfare and education funds accorded to the recipients of the contracts.

Mas Elysa, recipient of the contract said “the contract has certainly created a sense of eagerness and urgency to further improve my game and remain at the top. As  much as I do not want to fall in my grade, I want to see more players work hard and receive contracts, as it will make a difference to them as it has to me.”

Captain of the Malaysian Women’s Team, Winifred Duraisingam said, I am grateful to receive this contract. In return, it makes me want to uphold professionalism at all times and give my all to the game. Here on, there will be no time to relax. We, as a team need to be the best we can be.

The women’s cricket team are currently hard at work and will be vying for a spot at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. Given, the marked improvements, and previous achievements in tournaments such as the Inaugural Belt Road tournament, Malaysian Cricket has faith in our women’s team to deliver their best and for more players to be awarded contracts.

We congratulate the recipients of the inaugural playing contracts for women.
