Oman Cricket Academy Turf Ground has been abuzz with league matches of Muscat 6ixesCricket Tournament and now awaits with excitement, the grand finale on Wednesday from 6pm. The second edition of this fast-paced, adrenaline pumping, high performance matches in this unique format has truly claimed the lime light of cricket in Oman. The tournament began on February 28, with some new and interesting concepts to keep theplayers on their toes. For example, only seven players can bat and field, with all fielders (except the wicket keeper) having to bowl an over each. The tournament is being played with a traditional hard ball with full protective kit. The boundary circle is smaller at 60 metres and teams are allowed a maximum of three substitutions to be tactically used and reused at any point of time during a match. . “Muscat 6ixes is truly a celebration of cricket with the best division players participating in the event. Batsmen are looking for boundaries in each ball; while bowlers need to be not just perfect with their line, but the tactful field setup has to connect with bowling. “Overall game spirit, team co-ordination and the best of the player surface. How else do we celebrate this amazing game and its players?” says Abbas alBalushi, the brain behind this tournament. Four days of league matches showcasing five matches each day are over. Every match was live on YouTube for the sheer delight of cricket lovers in Oman. Yet another major achievement of this tournament has been the participation of an all-Omani team and the inclusion of Omani players in corporate teams. Teams which demonstrated a valiant play of cricket included Vanderlande, Design Group, Bank Muscat, Manis Azad, OCT Seeb (an all-Omani team), Israr Ghala, Bombay Blues, Muscat Teenagers, Bank Muscat Synergy and Six Offenders. From the two groups that these teams were split into, the top two teams from each group namely Design Group and IsrarGhala, Bank Muscat and Manis Azad have qualified to play the semi-finals on Wednesday.Praveen Kumar, second secretary and head of Sports Activities in the Indian Embassy, along with many more notable dignitaries will be attending the final at the OCA to celebrate cricket and to encourage the teams. The main sponsors of the tournament are Bank Muscat(Gold Sponsors), Oman Oasis and BousharSports Centre. The event is being managed by Orbit Events Management. The tournament can be viewed on social media sites YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. The tournament is being refereed by Oman Cricket Academy’s certified umpires and scorers. Live scores of each match would be available on cricclubs.com, with live viewing of the matches on YouTube under the Muscat 6ixes channel.The final is to be played at the OCA grounds in Amerat on Wednesday from 6pm.The tournament has been planned as a bi-annual event,with the next edition of the tournament expected to take place in January or February next year. Omani and the UAE teams are expected to take part in future editions. |
