Punctuality and participation in a parent run set up

You would have noticed that typical reporting times for WCA games are one hour before game start time. i.e., if the game is at 1 pm, the kids are expected to be at the ground by noon. We have to understand why this is mandated this way.

What happens in this one hour?

Players:

Kids need to warm up. Stretching and performing a few drills helps their body loosen up and trigger the muscle memory that will help them avoid injury.
The players can use this time to have a chat with their mentor/coach/captain and plan for their role in the day's game.
Participate in the toss if there is one and work with the team in prepping fellow team members.
Restroom runs and last-minute snacks/drinks that can be done with and not worry about for the rest of the game.

Game runners:

A typical T20 innings if it runs the full course will take 1.5 hours. With breaks, the whole game will take at least 3.5 hours. Starting on time, allows us to finish the game on time. Most grounds are shared, and we won't be holding up the game that follows ours.
The one hour before the game is spent in getting to know the team, setting up the scorers/umpires roles, and giving the team drills to get them into the game mindset.
We use this time to set up the ground - mark the boundaries, set up the stumps, and deal with any one of the incidentals that can happen before a game.
Parents:
Coming on time allows you to catch up on your kids' progress before the game and prevents you from interrupting the game runners during the game.
Arriving on time ensures that your child a. gets a fair chance to perform in the day's game and b. doesn't deny another child to perform to their capacity
Punctuality breeds confidence in the long run

What to do if life intervenes and I am not able to make it on time:

For the occasions where you are not able to make it on time, plan for it, and send a note a day before. On the day of the game, send multiple messages to WCA admins and game admins informing of the delay. This communication is your responsibility.
In the long run, make a call and pull your kid out of a game by the previous Wednesday, if you think you can't make it for a good chunk of the game. Don't expect the rest of the league to align with your schedule.
Pull out of any carpool arrangements and allow other kids to make it on time. Folks who wait for repeat offenders, go for the greater good and leave without the ones delaying the group. The rest of the WCA parents will back you up.

Games will be forfeited if enough kids are not there in the preparatory period.
Games will be forfeited if enough parent volunteers are not available for a game.
This is everyone's loss - don't be the one causing it.

For those of you who expect mentors and other parents to wait with your kid well past the scheduled time after the game (and drive off without even a thank you), let us help you readjust your moral compass.
If you instead do Costco runs every week than help fellow parents during game time, please stay back to collect our shopping list as well.
