The Dar es Salaam Cricket (DC)-organized competition's only clash of the day brought together outfits, which had on several ocassions in the past, set up entertaining duels whenever they locked horns in tournaments. The last weekend clash, though, was far from a contest, given Gymkhana were in great form in both batting and bowling. After having been presented with an opportunity to bat first, Strikers A were bowled out for 68 runs in 20.1 overs of the 50-over match. The outfit's skipper Kishen Kamania, who opened the innings, was so far the batsman with meaningful contribution, recording 17 runs that consisted of four fours. Strikers A therefter endured batting collapse, with none of the remaining batsmen managing double digit figures. Experienced all-rounders, Ashish Kamania and Jatin Darji, could only score five runs apiece in what was an underwhelming showing by the duo. Kamania's attempt to turn Strikers A's fortunes around was frustrated by Gymkhana's Abhik Patwa, who caught the former from a delivery by Yash Hirwani. Darji, who had on several ocassions put standout performances for the outfit, was a pale shadow of himself at the crease last weekend. The all-rounder was caught by Gymkhana's wicket keeper, Nasor Zahoro, from a delivery by Hirwani. Low order batsman, Sachin Kumar Patel, chipped in with four runs for Strikers A. Gymkhana's pacer, Zamoyoni Ramadhan, tormented Strikers A's batsmen almost at will, ending his spell with five wickets and conceding 20 runs in eight overs. Ramadhan's displays were so far the best in the day and he was deservedly presented with the man of the match present. Hirwania displayed a good bowling performance as well, finishing with three wickets and leaking 18 runs in six overs. Kartik Syal chipped in with two wickets, leaking two runs in 1.1 overs for the eventual winners. In response, Gymkhana hardly drained a sweat, reaching the target without loss of wicket in mere 8.1 overs. Skipper Patwa put up a solid opening stand with Yakesh Patel to steer Gymkhana to the victory, easily punishing Strikers A's bowlers. Patwa recorded 30 runs not out, cracking six boundaries, Patel posted 19 runs not out, blasting two boundaries. The KNML is held annually in memory of Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) Event and Tournament Manager, Kazim Nasser, who passed away in the city in 2015. Nasser was a respected cricket official, who also served in other positions in the national cricket governing body and the then Dar es Salaam Regional Cricket Committee (DRCC) for over a decade. The official oversaw successful organizations of various top domestic tournaments and international competitions, which took place in the country. Nasser had been one of senior players at Union Club before moving to cricket administration and he last played for the side in TCA competitions in 2006. He also played for senior national cricket team in the ICC Africa Qualifiers for the World Cricket League, which took place in the city the same year. Two mouth-watering duels have been slated for Sunday and Tuesday next week, with Dar es Salaam cricket giants, Caravans and Aga Khan SC, set to lock horns at the Gymkhana oval on Sunday. General Petroleum Club will confront Aces A at the same venue on Tuesday |
