USA Cricket Umpire Mudassar Safdar Tops West Indies Cricket Exams

USA Cricket Umpire Mudassar Safdar Tops West Indies Cricket Exams

United States of America Cricket Umpires Association (USACUA) umpire Mudassar Safdar has topped the recently concluded West Indies Cricket Umpires (WICUA) Final Practical and Oral examinations by obtaining the highest score of 94.66 percent. Before achieving this feat, New Jersey's Cricketer turned umpire Mudassar Safdar, also stood first in last year's Final written examinations of West Indies Cricket Umpires Association.

Twenty seven (27) umpires from different territories/countries qualified to appear in the West Indies Final Oral & Practical examinations, seventeen (17) umpires were successful that represents the success rate of 62.96 percent. The 1st position was achieved by Mudassar Safdar of USA whereas Gordon Mills of Jamaica and Roddan Davis of Trinidad & Tobago came at 2nd & 3rd place respectively. Hon. Secretary of WICUA, Mr Vivian Johnson Congratulated the successful candidates. In his message he said, "As secretary I want to congratulate all the successful candidates and to encourage the unsuccessful candidates to continue the preparation for next year's success".

Former member of International panel of ICC Umpires & now Chairman of WICUA Training & Examination, Mr Peter Nero, lauded the candidates of all their efforts. In his remarks the Chairman said, "Congratulations to all successful candidates and to Mudassar Safdarof United States of America on attaining the highest marks of 94.66%, a testament of the hard work he would have put in". He encouraged the unsuccessful candidates to continue the process and work hard to achieve the success. He also thanked all his colleagues of WICUA training committee, secretary, examiners and training officers for their support throughout the process. The president of USACUA, Danny Khan also congratulated Mudassar Safdar of his tremendous achievement. In his statement, he said, "We at USACUA are all excited about it. He got the highest marks in both written and oral practical examinations out of all the candidates from all over West Indies/Carribean, USA, Canada & Bermuda. We wish to congratulate Mudassar Safdar on his remarkable results and urge him to continue to develop his craft."

In an invited comment, Mudassar Safdar who is now fully qualified to be an International Cricket Umpire, said that he is happy with his performance and that he has worked very hard to achieve it. He stated that he would like to thank the members of the USA Cricket Umpires Association especially Danny Khan, Vijaya Prakash Mallela and trainer Muhammad Baksh for their support and guidance. Mudassar Safdar who is also an ICC Certified Cricket Coach, has been officiating cricket matches for the last seven years.
