TOP FORM - Senior, U17 & U15 bowling

Showcase Senior - Midway

We would not foget to mention the bowlers who are firing on all cylinders in this years edition. Bowlers have a tough job when it comes to T20 games and more so when shining the ball is not at their disposal however we have seen some remarkable bowling under the circumstances.

Leading the way in the Senior Section is Hishaam Manack for Marks Park Cricket Academy, who has for many years been a part of the JHB Winter League. We certainly can't forget the 2018 Cup final where Manacks Cricket Academy won with Hishaam playing a pivotal role in helping his team win that year. Hishaam has played in 6 matches taking 10 wickets to date, with his best bowling figures of 3/19 in 4 against tough opponents. He has consistently picked up wickets for his team and will be working hard to contiunue his fine form. (player profile) Marks Park CA come up against Young Guns CA this weekend in what should be a thrilling clash.

It is very tight at the top of this table with 2 players just 1 wicket away from the top spot. Saad Shoaib taking 9 wickets in 6 matches with an economy of 5.23 (player profile) for Marks Park Cricket Academy, Nathan Grobler taking 9 wickets in 5 matches with an economy of 6.15 (player profile) for Kempton Park Cricket Academy, Ethan Michael Booysen taking 8 wickets in 4 matches for Young Guns Cricket Academy and Michael Copeland taking 7 wickets in 4 matches for Soweto Pioneers.

Under 17 Showcase - Midway

I have had the pleasure of watching most of the U17 matches played this year and for sure one of the most fiery bowlers I have seen has been Jonothan Muller playing for Dream Team. His best figures of 4/11 in 3 overs shows that when his tail is up he can produce amazing spells of bowling. He has picked up 7 wickets in the 5 matches played in so far. (player profile) With pitches in the winter months being dead or dust bowls usually - the spinners tend to dominate these periods so it is very encouraging to see a fast bowler taking the lead. Dream Team take on Champions CA in this weeks clash, keep an eye out for this one!

There are an additional 2 players tied on the same number of wickets in the U17 section, the split on this is economy rate. Joshua Voster has picked up 7 wickets in 4 matches with an economy of 5.20 (player profile) for Alberton Cricket Club, Vian Young with 7 wickets in 5 matches with an economy of 8.79 (player profile) for Alberton Cricket Club, Henco Maritz 6 wickets in 5 matches for Dream Team and Aditya Tandel 6 wickets in 3 matches for Queens High School.

Under 15 Showcase - Midway

At the start of the week we had Dian Liebenberg leading the way in the U15s and then a scorecard was submitted later in the week which changed the top placed U15 bowler. Yusuf Gani is leading the bowlers going into Round 6, playing for Cover Drive. He has picked up 10 wickets in 4 matches with a fantastic economy of 4.73. Yusuf's best bowling figures are unbelievable 3/6 in 3 overs. He has also managed to pick up a Hattrick. (player profile). Cover Drive is just out of the placings for the Cup playoff at the moment and Im sure they will be hoping that Yusuf continues his great bowling to help them reach a little higher. Cover Drive come up against Kempton Park Cricket Academy in this weeks clash.

Hot on the heels of Yusuf are quite a few bowlers tied on the same number of wickets. Dian Liebenberg picking up 7 wickets in 3 matches with and economy of 2.83 (player profile) for Celestial Knights Academy, Joshua Mccoy picking up 7 wickets in 3 matches with an economy of 3.36 (player profile) for Roodepoort Rebels, Daniel Spies picking up 7 wickets in 3 matches playing for Kempton Park Cricket Academy and Jibreel Bulbulia taking 7 wickets in 5 matches for Marks Park Cricket Academy

We are a few weeks out from the playoff weekend and honestly all 3 of those age groups are still super close on the table. The next couple of weeks will give us an idea of which individuals will raise their hands and be counted for amoung the top placed bowlers and ultimately help their team reach the Cup Division in their age group.

All the best and keep working at it!
