UTSC trumps Laurier winning the first ever women's cricket tri-series.

History was made again once again. This Wednesday, Match 7th, Canadian College Cricket was honored to host it’s first Women’s Cricket Tri-series, featuring Ryerson, Laurier, and University of Toronto, Scarborough (UTSC).

The tournament took place at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre. The tournament featured with each team facing each other with the top two teams advancing to the finals. The clash between Ryerson and Laurier was exciting and intense as it ended in a tie, which led Laurier to the Final due to higher net run rate than Ryerson. UTSC won both their group matches excelling them to the finals. UTSC then prevailed victory over Laurier in an exciting final winning the first ever women’s cricket tri-series.

As the world celebrates International Women’s Day, this tournament was a symbol of women empowerment not only socially, but also politically, culturally, and economically. This tournament was an encouragement for every woman in the world that anything is possible when you put your mind and heart to it. And every player on the team was an inspiring example of that.

Hassan Mirza, President of Canadian College Cricket, emphasized the importance of this tournament and how tournaments like this help women break the cultural barrier. He talked about how women involvement in sports has become a global phenomenon over the years and has really empowered women to make a difference around the world. Together we made history through this Women’s Cricket Tri-series and opened doors for many girls around the world to live their dream and making a difference in the world.

The UTSC Women’s Cricket Team Captain, Perenthaa Arulnesan, congratulated all three teams and their captains @Sarah and Hirra for their effort and mentioned how it was an exciting tournament and they can’t wait for another tournament again.

Canadian College Cricket would like to thank their chief guests, Peter Donahue Associate Director, International Student Support at Wilfrid Laurier, and Farhan Khan, President of Canadian Corporate Cricket League, for taking time out of their busy schedule to join us for this historic event. Canadian College Cricket would like to congratulate all 3 Women Cricket team captains, Hirra FarooqiSarah Laws, and Perenthaa Arulnesan, for being part of this historic night and start of an endless legacy. Canadian College Cricket would like to thank UTSC for being such exceptional hosts and for giving us the opportunity to make history at their home ground. Canadian College Cricket would finally want to thank all the management and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to make this event a success. Happy International Women’s Day to our inspiring female leaders of today and tomorrow!
