Effective 2022 Cricket Season, MCA will be moving onto a divisional format. Divisions are based on MCA regular season standings from the 2021 season within each group. The Premier League will consist of 10 teams and the Division 1 or otherwise known as “First Division” will have 8 teams in all. As such top 5 teams from both Group A and B from 2021 season will progress to Premier Division and the remaining 4 teams from those respective groups will go to the First Division. Any new team(s) coming into the league will have to debut via First Division.
However, MCA T20 league is excluded from the above Divisional structure, and it will remain an amalgamated league Group structure for now.
Following promotion and relegation method will be used to determine the transfer of teams between Divisions.
Promotion and Relegation Process:
· Promotions and Relegations are a process where teams are transferred between the Divisions based on their performance from a completed season. The top ranked team(s) in First Division from the previously completed season are promoted to the Premier Division, and subsequently the lowest ranked team(s) in the Premier Division are relegated to the First Division. · The number of teams exchanged between the divisions is almost always identical. Exceptions occur when the higher Division wishes to change the size of its membership or has lost one or more of its clubs for whatever reason and wishes to restore its previous membership size. In which case fewer teams are relegated from the top division, or (less often) more teams are accepted for promotion from the lower division. This will be determined at the discretion of MCA. · In the event any exceptions such as a First Division team requesting that they would prefer to remain in the First Division despite qualifying for the Premier Division, the promotion and relegation decision will be at the discretion of MCA.
MCA League Divisional Structure:
· Premier Division will have 10 teams and Division 1 will have 8 teams · All teams will play the same number of games in the regular season within their respective divisions. · Bottom two (number 9 and number 10) Premier Division teams will be relegated to the First Division and subsequently the top 2 teams from the First Division will be promoted to the Premier Division for the following year. Please see playoff format below for more details on the final rankings. · New teams joining MCA going forward will enter the league via First Division.
Playoffs Format:
Premier Division:
The top 4 teams at the conclusion of the regular season will qualify for the playoffs.
