Five teams record victories in opening round of CSCA T10 tournament  By Ravendra Madholall

Five teams registered victories in the opening round of the Canadian Softball Cricket Association (CSCA) T10 tournament at Greenbriar School ground, Brampton, Toronto, last Sunday.

After their regular-season tournaments have been cancelled this year owing to the Coronavirus Pandemic, the association invited teams from across the Greater Toronto Area to participate in this specially-arranged competition which has 11 sides competing.

According to the structure of the competition, the top eight teams will progress to the quarter-final stage which is billed for September 6. The semi-finals and final will be played on September 13 also at the same venue mentioned above.

On Sunday, it was excitement galore as both batsmen and bowlers provided great entertainment.

The five victorious teams are: Dynamic’s X1 Sports Club, Softball Cricket Canada, Berbice Vipers, Leguan Boyz and Fearless Titans. Renegades Sports Club got a walk-over from KR X1.

Dynamic’s X1 defeated The Entertainers by 25 runs. Dynamic’s X1 batted first and scored 96-5 from the allotment of 10-overs while The Entertainers only responded with 71-7 at the end of the maximum 10-overs.

Shafraz Wahab made 39 for the winner. In The Entertainers’ innings, Paul Anderson scored 34 as Ashik Haniff grabbed 3-15 off his two overs.

Softball Cricket Canada was in top form as they defeated Cambridge by 41 runs. Softball Cricket Canada raced to a formidable 106-3 off their overs but Cambridge only replied with 65-3 at the expiration of the 10-overs.

Avinash Sookdeo led the way for the victor with 29 and skipper Looknauth Ramsuchit contributed 26.

Leguan Boyz and Pegasus were engaged in a tight tussle but the former emerged with a 12-run margin. Leguan Boyz totalled up 86-9 from the 10-overs and Pegasus only managed 74-8 off the 10-overs. Imtiaz Bradshaw top-scored for Leguan Boyz with 30 as Devo Ramsawack and Davin Shiwaratan claimed three wickets each.
Berbice Vipers were also dominant as they piled on a respectable 129-1 against Adventure who only made 90-3 from the 10-overs. Nishal Dass hit a rapid 52 for Berbice Vipers and a useful contribution of 45 not out came from Trevin Yusuf.

Randy Roopnarine scored a fighting unbeaten 41 for Adventure.

Fearless Titans beat Scorpions by 18 runs in their contest. Fearless Titans set up a challenging 111-3 from the full quota of 10-overs while Scorpions failed to sting by reaching 93-5 when the overs ran out.

Avish Rukhram led the way for Titans with 52 and Raymond Isahack supported with 34 not out.

Satrohan Singh and Rishi Mohan snatched two wickets, delivering for Titans.
