About:

Orange County Cricket Association (OCCA) was formed in 2007 with a mission to promote cricket in Orange County, to encourage the development of quality cricket, and to make sure the game is played in a dignified and friendly manner, keeping in mind the tradition of cricket. OCCA received nonprofit 501.c.3 status in 2009 that helped to secure infrastructure to play cricket on a regular basis.

OCCA is still a relatively young organization and has been consistently improving, thanks to its many volunteers who are willing to offer their valuable time to manage the activities of the organization. OCCA has been managing two tournaments each year (summer and winter) since 2007. OCCA plays T20 matches during the summer season and winter. Participation varies from 10 teams to 18 teams.

OCCA has created a good platform for all cricket loving groups in Orange County and welcomes all interested persons regardless of culture, nationality, color, religion and socio-economic background to join, learn, enjoy and contribute to cricket development in Orange County and neighboring counties.

OCCA passed through a very difficult time at its inception to secure permits to play cricket in suitable facilities. Players played in uneven surfaces, but continued to play without giving up, and finally OCCA managed to negotiate with the City of Santa Ana to build a turf wicket at the beautiful Centennial Regional Park, in a central location for many teams. OCCA is presently working with other cities and school districts to build relationships which it hopes leads to obtaining approval to play cricket and the subsequent opportunities to lay quality cricket pitches.

OCCA recognizes that the development of youth cricket is vital to the introduction of cricket in the USA. OCCA created Southern California Youth Cricket Academy (SCYCA) in 2104, resulting in hundreds of youth players getting involved. OCCA / SCYCA introduced cricket to a number of elementary, middle, and high schools in OC school system by carrying out cricket demonstrations at respective schools and delivered cricket kits to those schools to play cricket. OCCA is determine to expand this program in a structured manner, creating awareness and interest among youth, which provides a source to recruit new players for youth clubs with the opportunity to play competitive cricket up to regional and national levels.

SCYCA offers cricket coaching on regular basis and currently youth (boys and girls) meet twice a week and enjoy regular cricket practice. SCYCA organizes friendly matches and tournaments for benefit of the youth players.

OCCA is a member of USA Cricket, the national governing body for cricket in USA, an associate member of International Cricket Council.
