Team may consist of a maximum roster of 12 players. A maximum of 6 players and a minimum of 4 players must be on the floor at all times (1 bowler, 1 keeper & the rest will serve as fielders). Rolling substitutions are allowed to a maximum of 4 per game. Umpires must be notified prior to all substitutions.
Players not participating in a game should remove themselves from the playing area (ie. leaving the gym, finding a corner to sit where the view of staff/scorers is not blocked, not blocking any fire exits, or on top of bleachers, etc.).
A maximum of 2 people (non-players) are permitted on the players’ bench (including coaches & coordinators, but not spectators). If the team has a qualified trainer/therapist (registered with the team), they may also be on the team’s bench providing that there is room. Players under suspension are not permitted to act as a coach, or be on the bench with the team and are asked to keep clear of the playing area.
There will be 2 umpires officiating & keeping score in each game on the cricclubs application. In case of a discrepancy between the umpire’s score & the scorer’s sheet, the umpire’s score would be taken as correct.
Appealing an umpire’s call is not recommended. The captain on the floor may ask for clarification on the call of an out, run, wide or no ball. Once the umpire has addressed the single appeal, the decision is taken as final & irreversible. Be advised that during any appeals, the clock will continue to count down (wasting valuable batting time).
If appropriate numbers of players are not present at the start of the team’s first game of the day, the game may be delayed by 5 minutes past the scheduled start time. If the appropriate number of players is not present after 5 minutes, the game will be scored as a default. The default score will be a win by 6 wickets for the non-offending team.
Should a team lose a player to injury or technical ejection, which puts them below the default number, the team can continue to play the game shorthanded without defaulting within the recognized rules of the sport.
Players shall not wear anything which is dangerous to themselves or another player.
All members of a team must wear the same colour shirt with a jersey number & teams should wear contrasting colours. Pinnies are not available, so teams are asked to bring 2 sets of jerseys to the tournament.
Proper athletic attire must be worn by all players at all times during scheduled games. No jeans, belts, pants with buckles or snaps, street shoes or other unsafe clothing or footwear will be permitted in the gym. Non-marking shoes are to be worn inside the gym at all times. Players will be barred from participating until proper clothing & footwear is worn.
The maximum playing time per match is 60 minutes (30 min per innings) including a 2 minute break to allow for teams to switch positions from batting to fielding & fielding to batting and 30 seconds to switch bowlers between each of the overs.
The umpires will call captains of respective teams together for coin toss to determine which team bats or bowls first. The team listed first on the schedule will make the call on the coin toss.
A match will consist of five overs of 6 legal balls (30 balls). One bowler may bowl a maximum of 2 overs, but not bowled consecutively. Breaks between overs will last for 30 seconds.
A batting team losing 6 wickets constitutes an inning. A team batting 6 players will be allowed to bat with a 7th runner at the opposite end. A retired (hurt) batsman can come on to bat but only after everyone else has batted. Retired (out) batsman is considered an out & cannot return to bat.
When fielding, 2 fielders on the fielding team must remain in front of “half court” and 2 behind.
The ball is always in play as long as it is not missing, lodged somewhere in the gym or 6 has been hit.
1 run will be scored for:
Each time the batsmen cross ends successfully while the ball is in play.
Each time a batted ball hits any side wall or the back wall (behind the keeper) and remains in play.
Each time a bowled ball gets past the wicket keeper & hits the back wall.
Each each ball judged wide, +1 run if the ball hits a wall, +1 for each additional crossing of batsmen.
Each ball judged as no-balls, +1 run if the ball hits a wall, +1 for each additional crossing of batsmen.
Byes & leg byes where the ball hits a wall &/or each crossing of batsmen.
For each crossing of batsmen completed in the event of an overthrow.
4 runs will be scored for:
A ball hitting the front wall after 1 or more bounces, (not including ricochets off side walls). Batsmen can cross for additional runs on a 4. But since the ball is considered in play, the batsmen can be run out if not inside the crease.
6 runs will be scored for:
A ball hitting the front wall directly (below the metal conduit/windows) without bouncing on the floor. Batsmen cannot cross for additional runs on a 6.
Wide Balls & No-Balls: These are to be re-bowled and 1 run is awarded to the batting team.
No-Balls: a full toss above the waist of the batsman; illegal bowling style; a second bouncer for the over which is over the shoulder of the batsman; balls bowled during fielding violations; any part of bowler’s front foot not behind the crease; bowler’s back foot not landing in the crease; bowler knocking off the bails of the wickets on the non-striker’s end in their bowling action; all no balls will result in a “free hit” for the next ball bowled (see below).
If any part of the bowler’s front foot lands behind the line during the final delivery stride & then slips outside the line, it is not a “no ball”.
Free-Hit: If the ball to be used as the “free hit” is also a no ball or wide, the “free hit” will carry over to the next ball. In a “free hit” situation, the batsman can only be called “out” by those outs that apply to a no ball.
Wide Balls: any ball passing behind the batsman, any ball passing the wide line on the offside, any ball passing over the batsman’s head
A ball touching a batsman will not be considered a wide ball.
In case of any dismissal, new batsman takes strike except a run out at the non-striker’s end.
Automatic Out: when the ball hits the wall above the “out line” (over the blue part of the curtains or over the brick part of the walls), hits the ceiling or anything hanging from the ceiling
Bowled: when the ball hits the stumps & knocks off the bails before striker hits it.
Caught: when a hit ball is caught by a fielding player before hitting any wall or the floor.
Stumped: when the striker leaves the crease to reach a ball bowled by the bowler & the keeper takes off the bails with the ball in hand.
Run Out: when the striker or runner does not make their ground before the ball hits the stumps (the ball must touch some part of a fielder before hitting the stumps to be called out). In the case of a run-out at the non-striking end, the new batsman will start at the non-striking end.
Retired Out: if a batter is uninjured & retires.
Run Out (Mankad): If the non-striker leaves the crease prior to the delivery of the ball & the bowler completes a delivery action, then breaks the stumps with the hand holding the ball, the non-striker will be considered run out as per the current laws of cricket. A legitimate run out attempt or dismissal does not count as part of the over.
Games will be scored: Two (2) points for a win, zero (0) points for a loss, one (1) point to each team for a tied game & minus two (-2) points for a default. Super Over will happen to decide the winner only during the knockout stages.
The team with the best win/loss record in the games between the teams involved shall be awarded the higher position in the standings. The team with higher points (more wins) shall qualify to the next round.
If there are teams with equal points & equal wins in the preliminary round, the team with the higher net run rate in the preliminary round will be placed in the higher position and will advance to the next round.
If two or more teams are still equal with the same net run rate, they will be ordered according to the head to head match played between them (points then net run rate in those matches).
Umpires may assess a “yellow card” to any player or team staff member who excessively argues with any call &/or interrupts the game for continuous appeals. This will also include a bonus run for the non-offending team. A second “yellow card” within the same game for the same player or team staff member will result in a game ejection of that player/staff member & an additional bonus run for the non-offending team. That player or team staff member will also have to sit out during their team’s next match.
Officials & staff will implement a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY on unsportsmanlike behaviour. Verbal abuse of officials (including timekeepers, convenors & event staff) may result in further discipline. Physical abuse of an official or staff member during this event will, at minimum, result in life suspension from all Campus Recreation Activities hosted by Humber College.
Fighting, racial slurs & excessive verbal abuse will not be tolerated. Flagrant technical fouls will immediately be assessed in these situations. Players receiving a flagrant technical foul during a game are automatically suspended for the remainder of the tournament & must leave the field.
No team member (player, coach, or team representative), shall display or consume alcoholic beverages/illegal drugs while in attendance at the game site, including parking lots.
Any player who appears to be “under the influence”, before or during a game will be ejected from the tournament. Players at fault may be subject to further discipline.
Smoking & other tobacco products are not permitted at the game site. Please use designated areas & proper disposal practices if you need to use tobacco.
In addition to the suspensions imposed under these rules, the OCR may suspend the offending person for any or all extramural activities. As well, all information will be sent to the players’ athletic director for further discipline.
Any additional discrepancies which occur will be referred to the latest ICC Cricket Rules & Regulations & will be applied to indoor cricket at the discretion of the umpires &/or the tournament host.
